REVIEW Skin Dewi Raspberry Hydrating Cleansing Milk

by - August 04, 2020

When we talk about the development of the beauty industry in Indonesia, we know that there are so many new brands who release either skincare or makeup with an ‘international-worthy’ quality. It contradicts our old perception of local products being not ‘good enough’ to meet the international standard. These new brands and products point of sales vary, we might see it from the prices they offer, the ingredients they use, even to their visions and missions. For example, there is a new local brand who makes light makeup for people who sticks with the ‘no-makeup-makeup’ routine, or a local brand with skincare products for people who struggles to find ones for their sensitive skin, etc.

This time, I want to give you my review of a product from a local brand that uses only natural AND organic ingredients. Even if you didn’t read the title, I’m pretty sure you already guess the brand right once I mentioned it being natural and organic, right? Yup, I’m about to review a product from Skin Dewi, it is their Raspberry Hydrating Cleansing Milk! You must have seen the brand’s founder, Dewi Kauw, on YouTube a lot, eh? I first saw her on the Female Daily YouTube channel. Ever since that day, I always wanted to try one of her product because she said that she uses high-quality ingredients only.

Anyway.. after trying out this product for a few weeks, I’m ready to write down my review. Please keep on reading!

Price

IDR357,500 for 50g. It is also available in smaller and bigger sizes. IDR82,500 for 10g and IDR566,500 for 150g.

Packaging

A plastic bottle with a pump and a cap. The size is just right, it’s not too big nor too small. Travel-friendly.

Scent

It has a subtle typical spa scent. I personally fall in love with the smell. It is so good, it makes me want to have a perfume with this scent lmao.

Texture

It leans more to the creamy texture, but it doesn’t feel thick and milkier once it’s smeared. Easy to spread, especially on damp skin.

Thoughts

It just happened that I was sent this product after being on and off (ok, mostly off, lol) of using skincare last month. There’s a silver lining from it, though. It is I can easier tell how the product performs on my skin since it is probably slightly dehydrated for the lack of hydration given, and the dead skin cells were piling up. There is a negative side, of course, and it occurred when I used an exfoliating serum. My skin purged and I almost mistaken it to a breakout post trying this new product. Thankfully, it is not. I can tell because the breakout stopped just after a week, so.

Anyway,

I’ve tried multiple ways of using this cleansing milk. I’ve tried it on dry skin, on a damp or bit wet-skin, and as a facial wash. I tried multiple ways of using it because based on the video I watched from the Female Daily YouTube channel, Affi Assegaf used it as a first cleanser while Arinda uses it as a second cleanser. Dewi Kauw on her YouTube channel says that it can be both, but she recommends to use an oil-based makeup remover first if you use makeup and/or sunscreen. From all the experiences, I have to agree with Dewi’s method of using this product.

When it used as a first cleanser on dry skin, I think it needs a bit too much product, mainly when it’s used to clean heavy-duty makeup. Though the spreadability is good, it still feels a bit hard to smear it on a face with makeup on. The instruction on the box says you should use it on wet skin, so I tried wetting my skin. It’s easier to spread indeed, just make sure the face is not too wet or until the water drips because then the product will start to slide a lot. It doesn’t change the amount of product you need to be able to entirely clean the makeup, though.

But… when you use it after cleansing the makeup using an oil cleanser, or maybe on your just bare face, I think this product performs really well! It’s very lightweight, it doesn’t feel dry or hard to spread at all, the scent is heaaavenly (it soothes me), and it feels hydrating once you wash it off. My skin feels plump and no tight feeling whatsoever. I think it actually does mild exfoliation since the soft whiteheads around my nose tend to appear less ever since I put this product in my routine. I find myself enjoying this product every time I wash my face in the morning because it feels refreshing. It matches its name, eh? It’s Raspberry “Hydrating” Cleansing Milk!

My skin isn’t the sensitive type, so as expected, I didn’t experience any breakout from using this product. If your skin is sensitive but you’re dying to try this out, I think you still can give it a try. I mean, Dewi Kauw made this Skin Dewi brand because her kid had atopic dermatitis, and it pushed her to learn how to make natural skincare. It was meant for sensitive skin in the first place, so don’t worry. If you feel intimidated when you saw the many yellow marks on the ingredients list above, please note that those yellow-marked ingredients are mostly oils. They are naturally fungal acne trigger ingredients. We all know that people who deal with fungal acne should avoid oil-based skincare. Other than that, the ingredients used are great! Some of them are papaya extract--which can help for mild exfoliation, raspberry oil that’s high of fatty acids, niacinamide, panthenol, etc. Not to mention its gentle formulation.

Important additional info for you guys, this Indonesia local product is safe for pregnant and nursing mothers. Well, this product made from natural, organic, and plant-based ingredients, it absolutely makes sense that it’s safe for everyone. Also, if you use cruelty-free products only, all Skin Dewi’s products are cruelty-free. It’s BPOM certified, too.

Suitable for

This variant was intentioned for people with dry and sensitive skin, but I think it might suits everyone. It is even safe for pregnant and nursing mothers. But, if you’re dealing with fungal acne, I suggest you consult it with your doctor first.
