REVIEW Somethinc C-Riously 24K Gold Essence

by - May 21, 2020

When Somethinc announced that they were about to release new products, I got very excited. I love their Niacinamide serum and always wanted to try their brow product. This time, they released two new products, those are a cushion and a vitamin C serum, C-Riously 24K Gold Essence. As usual, this local brand held a giveaway event to celebrate the release. I’m so happy to say that I won the new serum in that event!

Since I got another serum to be tried and reviewed from Female Daily at the same time (it’s the Lancôme serum that I’ve reviewed before), I couldn’t use this serum right after I received the package. That’s why the review of this product is uploaded just now, even though I got the product since like two months ago. Well, the review is what matters, right? Okay, so, please keep on reading my review!

The new bottle is so dope! The cap/dropper automatically sucked the product inside the bottle when opened, so we only have to pump it once. It’s a glass bottle with matte/frosted finish. The colour of the bottle is purple, combined with a mustard yellow colour for the sticker. The colour combination actually looks so cool.

Liquidy, but a bit thick. Absorbs quickly into the skin, but leaves the skin quite tacky afterwards (not disturbing in any way).

I love the texture of this product. I don’t really care it gets a bit tacky because it’s not bothersome in any way. In fact, it could make as good skin preparation before applying makeup. Another thing that I also love is the packaging because it’s very functional and has a fine design! Yes, I’m a sucker for good designs. The claims and the great reviews from other reviewers also make this product becomes more appealing.

Unfortunately, the first few days of using this product made my skin texture became rough. I also spot some little bumps on certain areas on my skin. I tried to think positively and didn’t blame the product right away (read: denial). I thought it was because I did not use my skincare religiously at that moment. I decided to stop using this serum for one-two weeks to heal my skin before I try it for another round.

Once my skin got back to normal, I gave another two weeks off this serum, then I tried it again. Guess what? The same thing happened to my skin! :( I stopped being so positive and tried to face reality. Even though so, I still tried my best to find out the best way to use this serum on my skin. I mixed it with my moisturiser. But, well, it didn’t work. So, yeah, it’s official that this product doesn’t work well on my skin. It really doesn’t mean it’s a bad product, my skin just happened to act this way.

Besides making my skin texture rough and giving me some little bumps, I also notice that this serum makes the redness on my face (especially the ones from my acne scars) becomes worse. I tried using an exfoliating product to get rid of the rough texture. Yeah, it worked, but it’d become rough again in just a few days. I’m so disappointed that my skin can’t tolerate this product when many other people suit it well :(

If you want to try this product, I won’t say that I don’t recommend it just because my skin can’t work with it. Take my review as an additional perspective, to make you keep in mind that skincare doesn’t always work in every people. What works for me doesn’t mean it won’t work on you too, and vice versa. The only way to know if a product would work on your skin or not is by trying it yourself.
