REVIEW Somethinc HYALuronic B5 & Niacinamide + Moisture Beet Serum

by - September 28, 2019

There are so many forms of skincare, starts from cleanser, facial wash, toner, essence, serum, ampoule, moisturiser, sunscreen, etc. Out of any kind of skincare, I enjoy using serum the most, maybe because I think the serum is the most potent skincare (which is not true, the ampoule is more potent, lol). So, I feel so lucky when I received Somethinc serums for free after winning a giveaway from Female Daily! I got two Somethinc serums, those are Somethinc HYALuronic B5, which is a hyaluronic acid serum, and Somethinc Niacinamide + Moisture Beet Serum, which is a niacinamide serum.

It took me a long time to review these serums because I still had other serum. After more than a month since I received it, I’m finally going to review them!

Somethinc HYALuronic B5
Price: IDR115,500
Packaging: it’s a blue frosted bottle, at first I thought it was the serum that’s blue lol. The size is small and not heavy.
Scent: no scent.
Texture: not thick nor very thin, it’s runny and a little bit sticky, but easy to spread and absorbs quickly.

Ingredients:
Water, Allantoin, Disodium EDTA, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Hyaluronic Acid, Panthenol, Phenoxyethanol, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract, Glutathione, Fragrance

Great IngredientComedogenic / Fungal Acne TriggerBe Aware
Claims:
Promotes a maximum moisture ~ yes
Helps soften & brighten dull skin ~ yes and idk
Make the skin looks more supple and healthy ~ yes
Result:
This serum works well on me to add more hydration and prevent skin dehydration. I feel my skin is a little bit smoother when I use this serum, maybe because my skin becomes more well hydrated. I didn’t have any expectation, so I’m not disappointed in any way. The claims are mostly true, except the statement that this product can brighten dull skin, at least on my skin. That claim might be seen better on someone who’s dealing with dullness from dehydrated skin, I guess. I’m impressed with the ingredients because it’s minimal and most of them are great ingredients. Overall, I think it’s a great extra hydration serum, but it doesn’t do more than that.

Pros:
+ works well on me to add extra hydration
+ soften the skin
+ absorbs quickly into the skin
+ minimal ingredients
+ local product
+ affordable

Cons:
- the packaging isn’t too attractive for me (sorry)

Overall rating: 4.5/5

Somethinc Niacinamide + Moisture Beet Serum
Price: IDR115,500
Packaging: it’s a white frosted bottle. The size is small and not heavy.
Scent: no scent.
Texture: a little bit viscous and sticky, a little bit stickier than the HYALuronic B5, but just as easy to spread and absorbs quickly.

Source: Skin Carisma
Ingredients:
Water, Allantoin, EDTA, Niacinamide, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Fructooligosaccharides, Beta Vulgaris (Beet) Root Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance

Great IngredientComedogenic / Fungal Acne TriggerBe Aware
Claims:
Help to brighten ~ yes
Improve your skin texture ~ yes
Strengthen skin barrier ~ yes
Disguise dark spots & hyperpigmentation on the skin ~ maybe
Moisturize ~ yes
Restores suppleness ~ no
Reduces redness ~ yes!
Acne-fighting ~ yes
Minimizes the appearance of dry/damaged skin ~ maybe
Result:
I was quite surprised when I see so many claims for this product. Fortunately, the claims are mostly true (at least on my skin), I just can’t see that this serum helps to restore suppleness. This serum helps the most on my redness (yes!), brightens, and it also helps my acne to calm faster. I think the ingredients list is interesting because it’s minimal and contains beetroot extract (an antioxidant). It’s a little bit sticky but able to absorb into the skin quickly, so the stickiness will be gone right after it’s fully absorbed. I love this product and I recommend it.

Pros:
+ helps a lot on redness, brightening, and calming the acne
+ absorbs quickly into the skin
+ minimal ingredients
+ local product
+ affordable

Cons:
- the packaging isn’t too attractive for me (sorry)

Overall rating: 5/5!
