REVIEW Garnier Sakura White Series - Yes, the WHOLE Series

by - August 03, 2019

First of all, I want to say thanks a lot to Garnier Indonesia and Female Daily Network for giving me a chance to try and review all these products! Whoop! This series is all about giving glows to the skin, brighten the skin, makes it blushing and healthy from the sakura or cherry blossom extracts (which contain a lot of antioxidants). Their new day cream even has 5 times amount of sakura extracts (from their previous day cream) in it. It sounds kinda cool, right?

I don’t know if I should say that this line is a whitening or a brightening skincare line. It has “white” in the name, but the description says it “brightens” the skin. I’m not much into whitening product, but since I had a pretty bad breakout last year and left me a lot of hyperpigmentation, I keep on using brightening products to deal with it. So, I think it is a great opportunity to try this one out!

I have six Garnier Sakura White Series products with me, and I have tried ‘em for at least 1.5 weeks. I got an essence, a serum, a facial wash, a sheet mask, a day cream and a night sleeping essence (cream). I’m so sorry I don’t include the sheet mask and the facial wash in the picture. I used the sheet mask before I took a picture of the whole series, lol, and I forgot to take the facial foam from the bathroom and realised it just now. Of course, I’m still going to include the reviews of those products down below.

DISCLAIMER: I’m going to put colour codes on the ingredients to mark them as great ingredient, comedogenic/fungal acne trigger, be aware, and cherry blossom (to let you know at which point on the list the sakura extract appears). The “be aware” mark doesn’t mean it is bad. If it occurs multiple times, it doesn’t mean the product is dangerous, but you just have to make sure you’re not allergic or you’re okay with those ingredients. All people are unique, so IF one of the ingredients don’t match me, doesn’t mean your skin can’t take it too! Do your research by doing "trial and error" when it comes to ingredients! Claims:
Hydrates ~ yes
Softens the skin ~ yes

Result:
This is the second product I tried (yes, I don’t try all five new products at once). I didn’t experience any negative effect from using it to this point. I like this product because it hydrates my skin well, and it surprisingly matches the claim that it softens the skin! I feel a lot of improvement ever since I include this in the routine. My hyperpigmentation also fades a little and I think this product has a big part in that. It smells like cherry blossom —a fresh, kinda sweet floral scent. The ingredients seem a little bit intimidating, but in the end, I don’t find any problems with the product (I even feel so satisfied!), so no big deal (this applies to all products).

Pros:
+ it hydrates well and softens the skin
+ hyperpigmentation on my cheeks fades a little
+ contains niacinamide, vitamin C, sakura extract, and sodium hyaluronate
+ affordable

Cons:
- it is not alcohol-free, FA safe, and EU allergen-safe, so if you have more sensitive skin, please be aware. Try new products one by one and find out which ingredient doesn’t match your skin!
- I think it’d be improved a little if the alcohol is not the first 5 in the ingredients list

Garnier Sakura White Pinkish Radiance Ultimate Serum
Price: IDR88,000 for 50ml
Packaging: an airless pump bottle. The pump is excellent! One pump is perfect for the whole face.

Texture: gritty gel but not too harsh, it leaves white sand-like residue on my palm after applying it if I don’t blend it well enough (I think it’s the capsules)
Ingredients:
Aqua / Water, Glycerin, Alcohol, Niacinamide, Dimethicone, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Isononyl Isononanoate, CI 77891 / Titanium Dioxide, CI 14700 / Red 4, Zea Mays Starch / Corn Starch, t-Butyl Alcohol, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Sodium Hydroxide, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Phenoxyethanol, Salicylic Acid, Dimethiconol, Limonene, Xanthan Gum, Pentasodium Ethylenediamine Tetramethylene Phosphonate, Mannitol, Menthoxypropanediol, Linalool, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Parfum / Fragrance, Geraniol, Methylparaben, Butylene Glycol, Citronellol, Prunus Yedoensis Leaf Extract

Great IngredientComedogenic / Fungal Acne TriggerBe Aware Cherry Blossom

Claims:
Light formula, quickly absorbs into the skin ~ yes
More pinkish radiance & more transparent ~ I don’t think so
Smoother, bouncier, and plumper ~ maybe? I can’t tell because I already feel my skin gets smoother with the first two products I tried before I include this serum
Even skin tone ~ yes

Result:
When I first tried this product, I had a few tiny acne the next day. I thought it’d get worse, but after a few days, my skin got back to normal and all is well until now, phew! I don’t get the moisturised or hydrated effect when I use this serum. I felt a little stinging sensation on my cheekbones at first few uses, which usually happens when my skin gets dehydrated. Fortunately, the stinging sensation never occurs anymore after the fourth or fifth day. This is the third product I tried, and I think after I include this serum into the regime, I can see my skin got brighter. I can’t wait until I finish the whole bottle to see if it could work even more with my overall complexion and/or to my hyperpigmentation. For acne-prone skin, please be aware when you want to try this because it has dimethicone in it (it is comedogenic).

Pros:
+ brightens the skin
+ good pump quality, one pump dispensed is perfect for the whole face
+ contains niacinamide, vitamin C, salicylic acid, and sakura extract
+ compact packaging
+ affordable

Cons:
- not paraben-free, alcohol-free, silicone-free, and EU allergen-safe
- it’d be better if the alcohol and dimethicone aren’t at the first five ingredients
- leaves a white sand-like residue if not blended well
- the capsules, or the white sand-like thingy, can be a little bit harsh if applied too fast/strong

Great IngredientComedogenic / Fungal Acne TriggerBe Aware Cherry Blossom

Claims:
Deeply & gently cleanses the skin ~ yes
Reveal fresh & pinkish radiant complexion in 7 days ~ not really?
Suitable even for sensitive skin ~ maybe
Result:
It is a sulphate-free drugstore cleanser, rare to see something like this! The effect of using it is almost the same as using other typical drugstore cleansers, it makes the skin squeaky clean but less drying (since it’s sulphate-free). I think this facial foam suits combination to oily skin better than drier skin. This is the last product I tried (except the mask), I notice my skin gets more oily in the morning compared to when I used my usual second cleanser. If you want to use this cleanser, I recommend you to have a staple, very moisturising night skincare routine to balance your skin condition. By the way, this product smells like P**d*s facial foam.

Pros:
+ sulphate-free
+ very clean but not too drying
+ contains salicylic acid, sakura extract, and vitamin C
+ affordable

Cons:
- not FA safe and EU allergen-safe
- the fragrance is quite strong
- not moisturising

Garnier Serum Mask Sakura White Intense Hydrating Radiance Tissue Mask
Price: IDR19,000

Claims:
Moisturising ~ yes
Softens the skin ~ yes
Result:
I like this sheet mask! There was a cooling effect when I use the sheet mask. My skin feels very bouncy after I use this, and the excess essence on the skin after I took the sheet mask off was absorbed quite fast. I couldn’t spot any instant brightening effect. It has a typical drugstore skincare scent (lol), similar to the facial foam, but more subtle. The tissue is not thick nor thin, I prefer a thinner sheet mask tissue. The fit is great except the mouth area.

Pros:
+ makes my skin feel bouncy, soft, and well moisturised
+ a nice soothing and cooling sensation
+ contains sakura extract and sodium hyaluronate

Cons:
- not FA safe and EU allergen-safe
- I prefer thinner sheet mask tissue
- the mouth area is too low on my face

Garnier Sakura White Whitening Serum Cream

Claims:
Light & fast absorbing ~ so-so
Skin is deeply moisturised & protected from sun exposure ~ yes
Skin looks brighter & pinkish radiant ~ maybe

Result:
This product isn’t my favourite, tbh :( It has a pinkish white cast (or tone-up effect), which looks kinda off on my skin. At first, I like to apply quite a lot of it to reach the well-moisturised feeling, but it made the white cast looked worse. Ways to make it acceptable are to use bronzer afterwards or just use a little amount of it. It’s also better to use it little by little instead of putting a lot at once because it’d be a little bit hard to blend. I also experienced it pilled when I used it after I used the sheet mask. I was pretty sure the excess essence was absorbed well enough, but after I put this on top, it started to pill like crazyyy. It was my fault too, though, because I put quite a lot amount of it.

Pros:
+ contains SPF, so if you don’t have any outdoor activities, you’re good to go with just this
+ a little goes a long way
+ contains niacinamide, sakura extract, and vitamin C
+ can also work as a tone up cream

Cons:
- not silicone-free, FA safe, and EU allergen-safe
- has a pinkish white cast
- a little bit hard to blend if I use it too much
- jar packaging = less hygienic

Overall rating: 3/5

Garnier Sakura White Pinkish Radiance Sleeping Essence

Helps lighten skin tone, fade dark spots, refine skin texture ~ yes
Wake up with pinkish radiant skin that feels smoother, softer, bouncier, and more refreshed ~ yes
Suitable for sensitive skin ~ I don’t think so?

Result:
This one I LOVE. I LOVE IT THE MOST! It has the nicest scent, too. It smells like strawberry yoghurt, yum! The texture is so light makes it very spreadable. It has a wet finish, but it will be absorbed in a few minutes. Gives an instant well-moisturised feeling. The most exciting part is it doesn’t make my skin oily in the morning! I know this product does that because this is the first product I tried from the whole series. I was a little bit scared at first few uses because two little acnes appeared after I use it, but then I remember those acnes were always there —under the skin, never appeared. I’m so glad this night cream helped those acnes appear and never come back, lol. This night cream contains a lot of pretty ingredients —compared to other products in the line. It works on the texture of my skin, I feel my skin feels a lot softer, smoother, and bouncier. It also works with other products to fight hyperpigmentation and dullness.

Pros:
+ it matches the claims perfectly! Works really good on my texture and skin tone
+ contains European blueberry extract, niacinamide, sugarcane extract, sakura extract, vitamin C, vitamin E, white lily extract, and sugar maple extract (it’s a natural AHA)
+ the light texture makes it easy to spread
+very nice scent

Cons:
- not FA safe and EU allergen-free
- it says it’s suitable for sensitive skin, but it contains lemon and orange fruit extract which might sensitise sensitive skin
- jar packaging = less hygienic

Overall rating: 5/5

After trying out the whole series, as I already said multiple times, my overall complexion got brighter, hyperpigmentation on my cheeks faded a little, my skin feels smoother, softer, and bouncier. I didn’t expect this line to be working THAT good on my skin! I’m so happy that I had the chance to try ‘em and ended up loving most of it.

Are you guys interested in trying it, too?
