Bali Local Skin Care Haul! Bali Ayu, Bali Blossom, Bali Alus [REVIEWS]
Hey guys, welcome back! A few weeks ago I went back to my beautiful hometown Bali. I already planned to buy some local beauty products, because Bali is so popular with their local skincare/aromatherapy/spa products, such as Bali Alus, Bali Ratih, Utama Spice, Herborist, or the most recent one is Sensatia Botanicals. I was lucky that Pesta Kesenian Bali (PKB) was held in June and started when I was still in Bali. PKB is an art event that’s held annually. Besides showcasing performance art, they also have food stalls and local tenants that sell spa products, handmade footwear and/or bags, traditional fabrics, etc. That was a go-to event to look for the products that I was looking for. Anyway, it was kind of a bummer for me because the beauty/spa tenants were not that many… There was one brand that caught my attention, though, and I got a lot of stuff from there. I wasn’t satisfied with the limited choice of brands in PKB, so I went to some other places to look for other brands and I found some, but I ended up just bought two products from Bali Alus.
I’m going to put short reviews from all the products, but still, this is going to be a long post, I remind you! Sit back, relax, and read my thoughts on these products~
Bali Ayu Hand Made Body Lotion - Frangipani
Price: IDR20,000 for 100ml
Packaging: pump plastic bottle
Scent: frangipani —white floral but a little bit sweet. Soft sillage, moderate longevity.
Texture: a little bit thick, but fast-absorbing. A little goes quite a long way, easy to spread
Ingredients: Spring Water, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Cinnamomum Burmani (Cinnamon) Bark, Beeswax, Vanilla Planifolia (Vanilla) Fruit, Foeniculum Vulgare (Fennel) Fruit Oil, Piper Cubeba (Cubeb) Fruit Oil, Agar
Result: I like that it’s not sticky and smells soo good. The scent doesn’t really spread but has moderate longevity (around 4~6 hours). It doesn’t feel too moisturising BUT the moisture lasts longer than most body lotions I’ve ever tried. Sadly, it doesn’t contain SPF… I actually prefer a body lotion with SPF.
Overall rating: 4.5/5
Bali Ayu Essential Oil - Lavender
Price: IDR25,000 for 20ml
What’s it for: as a body fragrance, to help with insomnia
Packaging: glass bottle
Texture: very light oil, watery/runny
Result: Bought it mainly for my insomnia, and it helps at making my sleep quality better. Lavender oil is also known for its soothing and calming scent that can help with anxiety, but I haven’t tried it for that. As a body fragrance, the scent stays for quite a long time but doesn’t really spread.
Overall rating: 5/5
Bali Ayu Natural Home Spa Soap - Champaca
Price: IDR5,000 for the small size
Scent: champaca —warm floral
Texture: just like regular stick soap (lol) but a little bit harder?
Result: It makes quite a lot of foam, doesn’t strip the skin nor very moisturising. I enjoy the scent so much! Even though it doesn’t stay long after washed off, but not a big deal for me. Great for the price, and less plastic involved.
Overall rating: 5/5
Bali Ayu Traditional Body Butter - Champaca
Price: IDR25,000 for 100g
Packaging: plastic jar
Scent: supposed to smell like champaca —warm floral, but mine smells like chocolate/vanilla/coconut —sweet. Soft sillage, moderate longevity.
Texture: balmy, feels like vaseline (occlusive)
Result: This body butter has a balmy texture and it stays on top of the skin just like vaseline but more spreadable. You have to take a little bit more time and spread it really well to make it not sticky. It also holds the moisture for a very long time and makes my skin look shiny and healthy! It’s supposed to have champaca scent, I even sniffed their tester and it had a strong champaca scent. But I don’t know why mine smells like chocolate/vanilla/coconut??? The sweet scent overpowers the floral scent.
Overall rating: 4/5
Bali Blossom Body Mist - Sensual Frangipani
Price: IDR20/25,000 for 20ml
Packaging: small spray bottle, pretty & cute design
Scent: sweet floral
Sillage & longevity: soft sillage & weak longevity
Result: Just like other body mists, the scent is kinda strong at first but dries down to soft sillage & weak longevity. I use it as a touch-up perfume.
Overall rating: 3.5/5
Bali Alus Cleansing Face
Price: IDR25,000 for 100ml
Packaging: pump plastic bottle
Texture: gel
Scent: citrusy (lime to be precise)
Ingredients: Rosa Centifolia Water, citrus aurantifolia fruit extract —lime, Piper Betle (leaf) extract —daun sirih
Claims:
Removes dirt, excess oil, prevent and overcoming pimple ~ yes
Skin looks and feels calmed, smooth, and comfortable ~ yes
Do not cause dry skin ~ yes
Result: This has to be the most simple ingredient list in a facial wash that I’ve ever tried. I didn’t expect much, turned out this facial wash does an amazing job on my skin! It makes my skin feel clean, fewer whiteheads, but not drying (neither moisturising but I’m okay with that). It doesn’t lather a lot, very gentle on the skin. I think it suits combination to oily skin perfectly. Now I feel like trying out other Bali Alus’ products!
Overall rating: 5/5
Bali Alus Lip Care Balm - Natural Vanilla
Price: around IDR13,000 for 4g
Packaging: usual lip balm container, pretty packaging design
Texture: soft, mushy balm
Scent: waxy/balmy scent (I can’t explain) …not in a good way
Ingredients: Beeswax, Ricinus communis seed oil —castor seed, Glyceryl Glucoside, Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii), polyglyceryl-3 diisostearate, macadamia ternifolia seed oil, Coconut (Cocos Nucifera) Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate —vitamin E, Phenoxyethanol, BHT, Vanilla Oil
Claims:
Make the lips feel soft, smooth and moist all day long ~ yes, except for the moist all day long
Result: This balm is kinda weird… It’s not as solid as lip balm supposed to be. Actually, it feels like vaseline but softer and richer at the same time. The way I use this is I apply it just a little bit on my lips, and then I blend it with my finger. If I apply it to my whole lip directly from the container, it’d be too greasy. Uhh… it feels like applying beeswax on your lips? Not that I ever tried putting pure beeswax on my lips before, but that’s how I imagine it’d feel like. If I apply it too much it’d eventually collect on the inner part of the lips, makes white gunks/residue just like when I applied vaseline the night before. The scent is waxy/balmy, still can smell it after a few hours. It’s not too moisturising. It dries down to matte or powdery finish makes it great as a lipstick base. I will upload a short video of its texture on my Instagram story, so make sure you follow me on Instagram, too!

I’m so excited about this haul! I start to wonder why I never thought of trying out this aromatherapy stuff earlier. Speaking of aromatherapy, do you like this kind of stuff too? Anything related to spa and well-being? Have any recommendation? Share in the comment below!
