REVIEW Make Over Powerskin Water Charge Moisturizer

by - June 28, 2019

Hey guys, welcome back! In this article, I’m going to review a moisturiser from a local brand. Yes, as you can see in the title, it is Make Over Powerskin Water Charge Moisturizer! I bought this product when I participate in their beauty class with a local makeup artist. This product is quite interesting as it is Make Over’s first moisturiser, while most of Make Over’s products are makeup. After this moisturiser released, Make Over released two more moisturisers, those are Make Over Powerskin Radiant Tinted Moisturizer and Make Over Powerskin Liquid Glow Moisturizer. Those two moisturisers are more like skincare in a makeup form, because tinted moisturiser, of course, contains pigment so I don’t think you can use it at night… and their Liquid Glow Moisturizer works more like a glow primer, I think, so it might contain something that you should wash off before you go to sleep (please correct me if I’m wrong).

Anyway, I decided to buy this product because I needed a simple moisturiser (as it doesn’t contain exfoliating ingredients) at the moment so I can combine it with my serum or exfoliator. After two weeks of trying it out, here is my review.

Result
I didn’t expect much from this product because I thought the ingredients are ‘meh,’ and their claims are ‘basic’. Even though it seems like this product has simple ingredients, turns out those ingredients are quite amazing. All I wanted was it to moisturise my skin enough and able to lock the hydration that I got from other skin care products that I use at that time. Sadly, I don’t think a layer of this moisturiser is enough for my skin (especially at night), and I’m not even sure if it can lock all the hydration! This product kind of feel like an essence instead of a moisturiser to me because of its texture. I can tell it’s not moisturising enough from its thin consistency. At first, I thought it was just because I was used to cream or lotion type of moisturisers, but… nope, I know my skin needs a little bit more than this. So I tried to use two to three layers (most of the time I’m good with just two layers) and then it works okay, but it means I will run out of this product faster.

I think this product fits me for morning use better, considering that I can get extra moisture from sunscreen. It also is kind of sticky (just a teeny weeny bit) after applied, so it is a good makeup preparation product. I can see that this product is going to be great for makeup artists to be used on their clients before the primer(s). It is fast-absorbing, gentle, and soothing, just like the claims. I don’t think the claim that this product will ‘help tired, dull-looking skin coming back to life’ is right, though, because my dull skin doesn’t seem to look brighter instantly, nor after this more than two weeks trial.

Overall, I like this product but to be honest I prefer something richer. People with oily skin might like this better than me.

Pros:
simple, great ingredients
great as a makeup base/preparation
great packaging
fast-absorbing and soothing
local product
affordable

Cons:
not moisturising enough for my combination skin
more like an essence instead of a moisturiser
could possibly trigger fungal acne (contain ingredients that are not FA safe)

Overall rating
3.5/5
